A copy of a photo published in the Lindsay News and elsewhere as being of Alex Main Street prior to the Alex tornado of 1906. This does not appear correct as both this picture and its sister photograph (see the following photo) contain landmarks suggesting they were taken between 1907 and 1910. Notice that the Peters Shoes (or Peters Sales) sign has now been mounted on an awning on the west side of the street. Helping date this picture is a late 1907 Alex Tribune article stating that two new two-story brick buildings were to be built in 1908 by WH Griffin on the east side of the street, south of Mason Hardware. Although the name of the large brick building (located on the what is now the southeast corner of Main and Broadway streets - the building burned in 1999) we believe this is Mason Hardware. The buildings were constructed as planned but are not visible in this picture.
